HOW TO USE IT

How to use a
reel transcript

A transcript turns a reel you can only watch into a script you can study. Three steps get you from someone else’s reel to your own.

  1. 1

Read the hook on its own

Would it make you stop? Note what it promises: a mistake to avoid, a number, a story, a strong opinion.

  2. 2

    Mark the structure

Find where the reel moves from the hook to its point, how it backs the point up, and where it asks for something: a comment, a follow, a save.

  3. 3

    Write your own version

Keep the structure that worked and change the rest: your topic, your example, your words. Don’t post someone else’s script as your own.

Or let HandlePilot do all three for you

HandlePilot watches any reel and works out what makes it stand out: the hook, the structure, the pattern that keeps people watching. Then it writes your version, scene by scene, in your tone of voice, which it learns from your own reels and captions.

Questions?

How do I get the transcript of an Instagram reel?+

In the Instagram app, tap Share on the reel, then Copy link. Paste the link into the box at the top of this page and press Get transcript. The words usually appear in 5 to 10 seconds.

How do I transcribe an Instagram video?+

Copy the video’s link (tap Share, then Copy link), paste it into the box at the top of this page and press Get transcript. It works on public reels and video posts up to 2 minutes long.

Is it free?+

Yes. You get 5 transcripts a day, with no account and no card. Each one costs us a fraction of a cent, and the daily limit keeps the tool free for everyone. It resets at midnight UTC.

Which reels does it work on?+

Any public reel up to 2 minutes long. Reels from private accounts can’t be opened, and longer reels aren’t transcribed for free.

Does it work on reels without captions?+

Yes. The tool transcribes what is said in the reel, so the creator doesn’t need to have added captions. Text that only appears on screen isn’t read, and when the sound is a song, its lyrics may show up in the transcript. A reel in which nobody speaks has nothing to transcribe; the tool shows its caption instead.

Can I download the transcript?+

Yes. Copy the text, or download it as a .txt file or as .srt subtitles. Switch timestamps on to see when each line is said.

Can Instagram show a reel’s transcript?+

Instagram can write a reel’s speech as closed captions at the bottom of the video, when the creator turns them on (Instagram Help Center, checked 24 October 2026). They appear as the reel plays. To have the whole text at once, to copy or keep, paste the reel’s link here.

Can I get the transcript of someone else’s reel?+

Yes, of any public reel. Credit the creator when you quote them, and don’t post their script as your own.

Which languages does it work in?+

The transcript is written in the language the reel is spoken in.

Can my AI assistant do this?+

Yes, with HandlePilot connected to ChatGPT, Claude or Claude Code. Your assistant can watch a reel and get its transcript, scenes, hook and structure, then write your own version. HandlePilot for AI agents explains how to connect it.

What do you keep about me?+

Almost nothing. We don’t store the link you paste or the transcript. To count your free transcripts, we keep a one-way hash of your IP address until the day ends (midnight UTC), then delete it. The privacy policy has the details.
