What is an Instagram carousel?+

One post with up to 20 photos or videos that people swipe through, sometimes called a slideshow post. Every slide shares one orientation: square, portrait or landscape. Videos in a carousel don’t count as reels. That’s from Instagram’s Help Center, checked on 4 November 2026.

How many slides should a carousel have?+

Instagram allows up to 20. HandlePilot writes 5, 8, 10 or 12, or lets the style choose a length that suits it (4 to 10 slides in the designed formats). You can add, move or delete slides afterwards.

Are Instagram carousels still worth posting?+

Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, said in October 2024 that choosing a carousel over a single photo will often help you get more reach. Mosseri also said that when someone sees a carousel and doesn’t swipe, Instagram often shows it to them again, starting at slide 2. That’s why HandlePilot writes slide 2 as a second hook.

Can I change the style after it’s written?+

In the six classic themes, yes: switch the theme in the editor and every word stays where it is. The 60 designed formats are written for their own layout, so choose the format before you write, or write the topic again in another one, which counts as a new carousel.

Does HandlePilot post the carousel to Instagram?+

Not yet. You download the slides as PNGs in one zip and post them from the Instagram app, in the same order.
